Speakers Bio:
Xinghui Tao is a machine learning research and development consultant. During the past 10 years, he has led teams of domain experts, data scientists and software engineers to deliver ML solutions to clients around the world including Verizon Wireless, AVL, Warren Henry, Foxconn, ZF, Singapore Government and currently UK Ministry of Defence and jHub Defence Innovation. He has an in-depth understanding of deep learning architectures and rich experience of ML project landing. He holds an MSc of Computing Science and M.Phil of Professional Development from UCL and Analyst Certificate of Social Physics Big Data from MIT.
Dr. Yongchao Huang is a postdoc researcher in Computer Science at the University of Oxford, working on topics of machine learning, automated control systems, and smart buildings. His research interests lie in math and its applied spaces (e.g. numerical, signal processing, optimisation, control, etc). He is keen to answer real-world questions via evidence-based, agile, and ideally creative routines, typical fields include engineering (smart structures, systems), finance, and data science, where computers could potentially be automated to boost efficiency and/or accuracy. He has also spent some 2.5 years in financial industry solving practical data science puzzles end-to-end before returning to academia.
Talks abstract:
Edge AI for autonomous Robotics
A brief introduction on Edge AI applied to autonomous robots. The talk introduces key concepts of Edge AI, its significances and the challenges of developing Edge AI applications. Two main-stream Edge AI solutions and eco-systems (Nvidia & Intel) will be briefly showcased. An overview of general technical architecture of applying Edge AI to autonomous robots , with related theoretical background, will be briefly explained. And finally experiences and ideas of building Edge AI driven drones will be shared. The talk aims to present an general picture of Edge AI to its audiences from both theoretical and practical perspectives
Learning from Data: a General Perspective
This talk summarises the data-driven learning life cycle, concerning data (collection, cyber-physical system, architecture, mining, etc), common ML algorithms, and implementation. Case studies will draw attention to some real-world applications such as customer behavior detection (e.g. fraud) and forecasting (e.g. pricing), and engineering (e.g. automated control of building services). It may provide initial insights into the general data science approach to solving simple tasks with the theoretical ground and good practice, treating both sides of infrastructure (engineering) and algorithms (modelling), in an end-to-end manner.
